The world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Story
After a tragic incident at their elite college, stepbrothers Caroline and Lucien set out to protect their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel, Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), starred Amy Adams as Kathryn Merteuil, replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, a television series that was originally scripted before being remade as a film.
It follows Cruel Intentions (1999)
Gellar would later reprise her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.. As someone who loved the original film, I found this difficult to watch.
The characters have different names
It’s a new series with a whole lot of “similarities”. The character Lucien was the one I really struggled with at first.
However, by the last episode he had become my favorite
Even after accepting that it wasn’t a remake, I couldn’t warm up to his character at all. My advice is don’t compare – you’ll be really disappointed if you do.
