The very first cryptocurrency was Bitcoin. Since it is open source, it is possible for other people to use the majority of the code, make a few changes and then launch their own separate currency. https://test.com/ Many people have done exactly this. Some of these coins are very similar to Bitcoin, with just one or two amended features (such as Litecoin), while others are very different, with varying models of security, issuance and governance. However, they all share the same moniker — every coin issued after Bitcoin is considered to be an altcoin.

The term DeFi (decentralized finance) is used to refer to a wide variety of decentralized applications that enable financial services such as lending, borrowing and trading. I’ve seen other people saying that both Coinbase and Binance are generally ok for small amounts, and I’m reasonably new to crypto and don’t have the cash to invest loads, so maybe Coinbase or Binance would be fine for me, but every time I read another post about the issues people have had, it makes me nervous!

One of the top questions that pops up in the daily is always ‘what exchange should I use (for ___ coin/country/etc.)’? We’ve had lots of great posts about various coins and tokens recently, but the area of exchange information remains rather sparse. As such, I’m going to do a quick light-speed breakdown of the top exchanges, their differences, and notable points.

Like Bitfinex, Kucoin has been around a long time, but hasn’t exactly had a stellar record, having been subject of at least one major hack/theft. On the other hand, KuCoin offers good fees, a wide variety of coin listings, and a large pile of passive income options.

Bitfinex is one of the older exchanges in the scene. Unfortunately, that doesn’t come with a great record, with a major hack in 2016, some legal and banking issues, and close associations with Tether, which has come under great scrutiny at times. Still, the exchange offers most services you could want, with competitive trading fees and a reasonable coin listing.

Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

Some people say it’s a scam because the coin has no value and they have yet to see a mainnet launch. However, those in favor of the project argue that Pi coin is legit. Since no money is needed to use the network, there’s nothing really to lose.

However, if the developers of Pi Network manage to reach phase three of their plans, a new dimension of crypto mining will ensue. The innovative concept of mobile mining with no money down would give access to just about anyone. As of now, the only thing to lose is your time.

The network is governed by the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP). This protocol was specifically chosen to aid in the user-friendly mobile mining experience by enabling users to incentivize their activities on the network by earning rewards. The mechanism it uses is the novel Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) which allows anyone to join the network and become a validator instead of a fixed group.

The Pi coin doesn’t actually exist. However, the project, the founders, and the mining rewards on the Pi Network app are real. Whether or not the coins mined will be of value in the future is up to speculation.
